Two big dogs

As gentle as could be

One claimed papa

The other claimed me.

In spite of that arrangement

They hustled to possess

Both mama and papa

To prove who was the best.

They brought the crisis to us

Anxious for comfort’s ease

As soulful eyes so pleaded

For assurance that they pleased.

We listened most

And tried our best to explain

That families love each other

In spite of personal claims.

The explanation seemed confusing

But was solved in a simple way

By each giving twice the slobber

They made their point that day.
